Knowing God Changes Everything

Who is God? What do you feel or see as you think of Him?

Now, consider this: Where did your understanding of God come from?

Don't Miss Out

Our life experiences, faith upbringings, and individual feelings all influence the way we picture God and can often lead to a skewed image of who He really is. Although not all of this leads us to a negative view of Him, these things have the uncanny ability to cause us to miss out on seeing God for the vast being that He is. Instead, we only get part of the full picture of who we serve and sometimes miss knowing Him altogether.

John 1:1 reads, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God" (NIV). Verse 14 continues, "The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth" (NIV). We truly see God only through His Son, Jesus, and through the Holy Spirit's revelation of His Word, the Bible. Jesus is the true reflection of the Father. His life, death, and resurrection invite us into to an intimate relationship with God and allow us to see a clear picture of who He is.

Knowing God Changes Everything

As an emotional person, I find it so easy to get caught up in the "feeling" of religion. When I am overwhelmed by a worship song, God is gracious and powerful. When I am anxious and sad, God has forgotten me. How quickly I forget who my Creator is. Your feelings, your experiences, and your sin do not change who God is. He is such a dynamic being, but He is also constant and never-changing. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). We cannot let our view of Him be influenced by anything other than the truth, revealed to us through Jesus and His Word.

Sister, we have direct access to God. Our experiences and feelings don't get to tell us who we serve. We can know Him--the real Him--by trusting in His Son and continually meeting Him in His Word. And let me tell you, knowing the real God changes everything.
