Run From Sin
My dear sister, I'm coming to you about a matter of grave importance: sin. Specifically, unrepentant sin. What is sin? My favourite definition is "treason against the creator and Lord of the universe" because it clearly establishes God as the rightful ruler and judge.
Run From Sin
What does it mean to repent? To repent is an action. It means to not only turn away from sin, but to pursue what honors the Lord. Repenting isn't just stopping what you're doing. It is turning and walking in the opposite direction and never looking back. Proverbs 26:11 says, "Like a dog that returns to his vomit is a fool who repeats his folly" (ESV). That's a pretty graphic assessment of how the Lord regards revisiting your sin.
View God in His Rightful Place
One of the common excuses for remaining in sin is that it doesn't feel black and white when you're in the middle of it. Do you know what that's an indication of? That you've dethroned God and put yourself in His place. You cannot truly refer to God as Lord while actively rebelling against Him. When we view God in His rightful place, Creator and Lord of the universe, there isn't an inch of ground that makes sin justifiable. "If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth" (1 John 5:6, ESV).
You Are Not Too Far Gone
When we walk in darkness, God often feels far away. But remember, if repentance is to turn away from sin and walk towards God, sin is to turn and walk away from God. He didn't go anywhere...you did. If you profess Jesus Christ, yet are walking in sin, take heart in this truth: you are not too far gone. The beauty and joy in repentance is that it leads to reconciliation and God, your Heavenly Father, will welcome and embrace you with open arms."'Yet even now,' declares the Lord, 'return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning; and rend your hearts and not your garments.' Return to the Lord your God, for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love." -Joel 2:12-13 (ESV)
