You Are the Light of the World

There is incredible honor that God has bestowed on us in that we get to be lights that people look to and see glimpses of Him. It’s amazing that the works He sets before us to do actually end up giving evidence of Him as we live for Him. This is the kind of purpose we have in every-day kind of moments.

Do you live with this truth in mind?

I have to admit that I sometimes forget this truth and I let the light go out in me. When I’m tired of fighting against evil in my life, when I’m discouraged, or whatever it might be that makes me pull my guard down and let sin creep in.

But God calls His children to so much more and He gives us a beautiful illustration of the shining lights we are. We are beacons of the one true Hope. And He graciously helps to restore our brightness when we come to Him.

In order to shine brightly, I think it means taking time to examine the corners of our lives that may be holding us back. The dark and dusty corners of our minds and lives that we haven’t cleaned the cobwebs out of for a while because at times some things feel better left unsaid. It means finding where we may be walking in darkness still and keeping our light from shining as brightly as it could.

“If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.” (‭‭1 John‬ ‭1‬:‭6‬-‭7,‬ ‭ESV‬‬)

God desires us to walk in step with Him. Ask Him about the places of your life that He would help with. Places where He would bring freedom and life. And find yourself shining brightly because of it.
