Grace - let that word sink in for a moment. Feel it, every ounce of it.
I believe it is one of the most beautiful words in the English language honestly. Something about it just sounds pretty, sounds dainty, fresh and renewed.
As beautiful as the word is, grace can be defined as: “the unmerited favor of God toward man” (New Testament charis [cavri”])*
Unmerited favor. Wow. Now let that sink in.
I’ve learned that grace is messy. Grace is found often the result of a big, big mess, yet we receive it anyway, unmerited. Grace is a beautiful word in every essence. It seems easy, light, welcoming, but the reality of it is far deeper than my personification of it allows at first glance.
The true beauty of grace is that, like faith, it’s there… God’s grace is always there. It is up to us to be disciplined in receiving grace, using it as a tool to better our days and our commitment to a faith-driven life.
Grace introduces itself within the first book of the written word, which, is pretty cool considering that same word is a tool ready to be used each and every day, some thousand-odd years later. If we allow ourselves to welcome grace and us it as a tool, knowing it is unmerited and embracing it is here to serve us, we can lead with the same unmerited favor toward others.
How powerful would that be if the world operated from a place of grace? Think about your boss, manager or colleague, if they embraced you with grace, unmerited, simply because you made some messy mistakes and learned from them - how great would that be?
We could be that colleague. We could be that manager. We could be that boss. Let us be motivated by grace, motivated to embrace grace for ourselves and motivated to lead through grace.
“But now, for a brief moment, the LORD our God has been gracious in leaving us a remnant and giving us a firm place in his sanctuary, and so our God gives light to our eyes and a little relief in our bondage.” Ezra 9:8
