Daily Delight

Have you sung the hymn, “Tis So Sweet,” before?

My, oh, my. I don’t know about you, but I love singing hymns over and over. My favorite part of this one goes:

Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus! Oh, for grace to trust Him more!

The woman who wrote the lyrics of this song, Louisa Stead, witnessed her husband’s death as he was saving a young boy who was drowning. Can you imagine the grief of losing a husband to a selfless act of rescuing someone else? Mr. Stead was saving a boy. I can only imagine how I would react in that situation...the sorrow of losing a husband in general would bring so much sadness. And yet, she went straight back to the Lord. She learned how to trust Him with everything because she lost her everything.

Louisa didn’t just stop there, either. She found and understood the grace of the Lord, which guided her to trust Him more.

I want to learn to trust Jesus more.

The Word says, “Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the LORD GOD is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation” (Isaiah 12:2, ESV).

As Christians in the new covenant, we know that God is our salvation and can rejoice in the strength of the Lord.

Because of this truth, we do not have to be afraid.Because of this truth, we can trust in Jesus with everything that we have.

I’m so glad I learned to trust Him,

Precious Jesus, Savior, Friend.

Oh, how precious is the Savior that we serve and worship.

Let us learn to trust Jesus more. He knows, He sees, and He loves!
