Daily Delight
"I see these distractions, Lord; Don’t let me fall to them. Help me to understand them as they are: Worthless things to pull my eyes from You. I want to spend my days with You. I want to listen to Your voice. I want you to have my whole heart, always; Lord, lead me in the way that You’ve laid out for me."
Truthfully, my head is so easily turned. My Father is the Infinite Creator of the world, and yet I frequently find myself chasing after the odd gust of wind. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Not all distractions are wrong, but there are some that slip in the cracks of our fragile minds and rest there. Then they grow, pushing everything else—including our mindset in Christ—out. In Solomon’s Song of Songs, these deceitful infections are detailed this way:⠀
“Catch for us the foxes, the little foxes that ruin the vineyards, our vineyards that are in bloom.”-Song of Songs 2:15 (NIV)⠀
A definition of “fox” in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary is “to trick by ingenuity or cunning; [to] outwit.” Don’t think for a moment that the Enemy won’t try to trick and outwit you as you journey through your life with Christ. I’ve faced this reality so many times, especially when I haven’t been paying attention. Things that I thought to be harmless became rooted in my life, competing for my devotion and twisting my mindset. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Here’s the good news, though: Scripture is our weapon, and it’s sharp. It is so important that we know what God says in His Word. The Enemy won’t ever be able to confuse us if we’re constantly immersed in God’s truth. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of the Father. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.” -Colossians 3:1-3 (NIV)
This is how we fight our battles. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
