Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” -Psalm 51:10 (NIV)

God is currently in the works of healing me from a season of rejection.

When you are going through something as painful as rejection, no matter the source, your self-esteem levels begin to fall and your confidence in who you are goes south. Self-pity kicks in and before you know it, you are in so much pain that it becomes an idol in your heart. Instead of valuing yourself for who God created you to be, you start to see yourself through the lens of your hurt and pain.

A few weeks ago, I put up walls around my heart, afraid to let people in. Before I knew it, I was failing to even let God in my heart because I thought He would reject me as well. I stopped seeing myself through His eyes, and closed myself to Him and everyone else for fear of more rejection and hurt.

This is not the first time I have gone through this. Every time I’ve been through this kind of hurt, I have asked God to heal my heart, but this prayer has exhausted its use. My heart already had too many stitches, too many spiritual surgeries. What I needed was a new heart. So, instead of asking God to heal my trampled-on heart, I asked Him to give me a new heart. I repented and asked Him to cleanse me from the idol of pain.

I can feel Him at work, removing my hardened, paralyzed heart. A new, whole heart is on its way! A heart so tender, soft and sensitive to the Holy Spirit. No more pain, no more walls. What a mighty God We serve!

I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.” -Ezekiel 36:25-27 (NIV)
