Daily Delight
Then he turned to the woman and said to Simon, “Look at this woman kneeling here. When I entered your home, you didn’t offer me water to wash the dust from my feet, but she has washed them with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You didn’t greet me with a kiss, but from the time I first came in, she has not stopped kissing my feet. You neglected the courtesy of olive oil to anoint my head, but she has anointed my feet with rare perfume.
“I tell you, her sins—and they are many—have been forgiven, so she has shown me much love. But a person who is forgiven little shows only little love.” Then Jesus said to the woman, “Your sins are forgiven.”

So many questions come to mind when I read this passage of Scripture. Who was this woman? What has happened to her? How did she get to this point?
She knew that Jesus had just entered her life and she would never be the same. She never spoke to him and she didn’t have to. Her tears and the love she showed toward Jesus said more than enough.
In the text, the author left the woman without a name. I am okay with this because her name is my name and it may also be some of yours as well. I see reflections of myself in this woman. She has been drawn to the end of her rope, sitting at the feet of Jesus, weeping in silence. While everyone else was submitting their judgements, she cried tears of faith at the feet of her savior and received forgiveness in return.
Her sin is not specified in the passage, but it is arguable that she was a prostitute. But to Jesus she was more than just a sin filled woman sitting at his feet. Although he saw her many sins, he still loved her and even defended her against Simon. Before he left, Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”
Faith is not always the easy route. Sometimes you find yourself at the end of your rope and faith is all you have. I admire the bravery of the woman. She was done running from her problems. She knew exactly what she needed and Jesus did not disappoint (as if he ever could.) It was her faith that led to her forgiveness and restoration.
