Our desire to be seen, heard and understood is great in us. I remember being a little girl and always feeling left out, overlooked and misunderstood. I never really knew why I felt that way, I just thought I was never good enough. My identity had always been placed in my surroundings and circumstances, can you relate? Our insecurities as little girls usually don't go away and if left overlooked without surrender to the cross, they grow up with us to become bigger insecurities that make up a big part of who we are, and how we think not only about ourselves and our surroundings, but our Father.
Our insecurities can come from many places-rejection, comparison, jealousy, idolatry, and pride. For me, they were from all of the above. I felt rejected, which led me to feeling shame, guilt, jealousy, and anger. I wanted to so badly be understood. Really, I just wanted to be loved. The desire to be loved led me to live a life full of anxiousness and striving and reaching for everything against our Father. It was too much, and it was really tearing me apart.
God didn’t want that for me, nor does He for you. Living a life full of insecurities, reaching, and pulling, looking to fill the holes of our hearts with everything but Him, leaves us completely empty. I needed peace, I needed hope, I needed Him. I began to read and look to Him about all of my junk: “God, I need you. This is too much, and my identity has always been rooted in anything but You. Help me”.
We need His peace, and reminder of who we are in Him.
Galatians 3:26 reminds us that we are daughters of a King: "For you are all children[a] of God through faith in Christ Jesus."
If we were to walk in and remember the truth that we are daughters of a King, we would know and feel His great love for us. It's a love that covers all of our pain, insecurities, and brokenness. The heavy anxiety that comes with always looking to be accepted and loved, protecting our hearts and living a guarded life, all consume our day if we don’t give it to our Father. You guys, this life is not meant to be lived in any bondage, and the promises of His love and kindness are forever.
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.” -Philippians 4:6-9
Keep your mind on God and remember that you are made in His image, for His glory. He will grant us His peace through faith and in Christ Jesus, our hearts and minds will be guarded from the things that will try to come against us. We are daughters of a King who are rooted in His goodness. The Lord provides our peace and is our identity. Soak this in today and walk boldly in His truth.
