Daily Delight
It is easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of this world. We live in a society that constantly encourages us to seek out the bigger and better, to make a name for ourselves. If we’re not living up to the latest and greatest standards, it’s easy for us to feel small, invisible, and purposeless. I know I’ve felt this way. As followers of Christ, we are not called to live by the same standards this world does. Jesus tells us, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth” (Matthew 5:3-5). He literally takes everything the world considers small or useless and calls it good, bestowing His blessing upon it.
God is in the small things! He sees that school or work assignment you spent hours on, only for someone to dismiss it without so much as a glance. He is with you in the long days and nights of motherhood that drag on without a thank you. He cheers you on as you wait for and wonder what next steps to take in life. He sees, He hears, He knows, and He cares. Jeremiah 29:11 says: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you a future and a hope.” God spoke this to the Israelites, who had recently been exiled to Babylon. He said this to a people who had not only lost their purpose, but their home, land, and livelihood. If that doesn’t sound hopeless, I’m not sure what does! But God promised them that He had a plan, a future, and a hope.
