The call came in, the doctor found a spot on my grandmother’s colon. It would soon spread to the liver and appendix. In the same month, my now mother-in-law was diagnosed with Lymphoma, and would later experience breast cancer again, for the third time. “Why them, God? Heal them, please. Why do they have to walk this? I don’t understand.” My world was rocked and my faith was shaken. I was devastated. None of us knew what the outcome would be. I was scared. But then I saw their faith and their trust in God’s greater plan. The ones walking this difficult road had more faith than I ever could have. They believed, they trusted, and they waited.

I’ll never know why God allows some people to walk through what they do, but I do know that God is powerful and His plan is perfect. The age-old saying that God will never give you more than you can handle is simply not true. Without Him giving us more than we can handle, we would not trust Him, and we would not place all of our faith in Him. If life were easy, we wouldn’t need God and we wouldn’t grow in Him. Without obstacles and challenges, our faith would not grow and we would not be a light in the darkness.

In your tough situation and time of need, do not blame God. But praise God for His sovereign nature, His love, and His good heart.
All things work for the good of those who love him,” (Romans 8:28). In the hard time, trust Him, as He is the only one who can turn water into wine. And if He doesn’t answer your prayer the way you wanted, praise Him. Don’t turn your back on a God who works everything for His glory and His good. Don’t reject His love and His plan. Praise Him. Praise Him in the cancer, in the unknown, in the dark and tearful nights. He wants you to find rest in Him as He is the only One who can truly comfort you.
