Daily Delight
Waiting stinks.
We grow up in a world where a five-year plan is coveted, where we're encouraged to select our career track in middle school and are assumed to have an answer to 'what do I want to be when I grow up' by age five.
We are a world of planners. Even when we don't have a plan laid out, we have expectations of having a plan, right? Graduate high school, pursue higher education or enter the workforce, get married, have children, land a good paying job, etc.....
But what about those who aren't exactly on that path? They 'did all the right things' and 'checked all of the right boxes' but somehow, their path isn't matching what they thought it would.
Again, waiting stinks.
I believe we serve a God who loves to throw 'not yets' our way. I have a vision of Him, sitting in the clouds, maybe a smirk on his face because we keep on trying to make something happen that aren't meant for us in that moment... I see him smirking, throwing some goodness down from the sky, and with a smile saying, "Not yet....".
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11).
Uncertainty in what's to come is a tricky thing to navigate. We want to be smart, secure and make good choices that help us later on down the road. We try so hard to live up the expectations thrust upon us whether by family, society or even ourselves. One of the most valuable things I have come to learn in my faith journey is.... at the end of the day all we really need is faith in Him. He outlines promises for us time and time again in scripture. He allowed his son to suffer for us, for our future, for me and for you (and He didn't even really know us back then....).
I thoroughly believe, and often have to repeat to myself multiple times a day, no matter what you're facing in this moment, there will come a time when you say, "Ah, I get it now, God - that's why we went through that".
God's timing > mine....Amen.
