Daily Delight
“While they were traveling, He [Jesus] entered a village, and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home. She had a sister named Mary, who also sat at the Lord’s feet and was listening to what He said. But Martha was distracted by her many tasks, and she came up and asked, ‘Lord, don’t You care that my sister has left me to serve alone? So tell her to give me a hand.’ The Lord answered her, ‘Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has made the right choice, and it will not be taken away from her.’” -Luke 10:38-42 (HCSB)
Is anyone else tired? I know it’s only the beginning of a new school year or maybe you’re looking forward to the new season arriving, but life is hard no matter the season. So often, I get in these busy spells where I feel like my world will crumble to pieces if I am not running around, making sure I am a part of everything going on around me. Does anyone else struggle with that? Can I get an amen?
Three weeks ago, my brother committed suicide. The amount of “things to do” was almost unbearable. Plan the service, fill out paperwork, keep a list for the “thank you” cards, pick out photos... the list was endless. In one of my very deepest hurts, I was struggling to breathe because I kept choosing the “wrong” things to focus on. The arrangements, the notes, the paperwork… those are all things that need to be done, yes, but it took two weeks for me to come out of my daze and see Jesus at His fullest. He was extending His arms out to me, waiting patiently as He graciously does for each of us, to sit at His feet and hear His voice of love, assurance, and compassion.
Don’t wait until you’re exhausted to sit at His feet and soak in His goodness. He loves your servant’s heart and your willingness to love others, but don’t let the fear of being disliked or the compliments of your hard work allow you to stumble. Choose His presence and come sit at His feet. Let Him show you how beautiful His love really is.
