Daily Delight
“Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have.”
-Philippians 4:11 (NIV)
In this verse, Paul beautifully expressed his contentment no matter the circumstances of his life, even if he was in need. When speaking for myself, I constantly struggle with this mindset. As long as I can remember, I’ve been obsessed with materialism and the want to obtain more “stuff”.
You see, I am never satisfied. If I could only get something better, newer, or more expensive, I would be happy. Yet, every time I act on these thoughts, I’m left disappointed; for being consumed by the superficial can only provide a temporary feeling of joy. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, sweet friends, I pray we can rely on the power of Christ to give us victory over this addiction.
Ask God to remove this desire and allow us to be content with what we already have. We must make it a priority to be like Paul and be thankful whether in need or days of plenty. Our perspective must be redirected to the wonders above.
“Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.” -Philippians 4:6 (NIV)
May we realize what we receive is not always in form of material possessions; they should be least satisfying. Our best and greatest reward is awaiting us for eternity in Heaven! Matthew states, “Don’t store up treasures here on earth...store your treasures in heaven. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be” (19-21, NIV).
No “thing” can ever compare or provide the happiness and joy we find in our Savior!
