How Spending Time with God Transforms You: Reflecting His Glory in Everyday Life

When Moses came down from Mount Sinai… [he] did not know that the skin of his face shone because he had been talking with God.” - Exodus 34:29

The Power of God’s Presence in Our Lives

Before the Israelites built the Tabernacle, the Lord’s presence communed with Moses in a “tent of meeting” because He wanted to speak with him “as [one] speaks to his friend” (Exodus 33:7, 11). This is astounding, but what’s even more incredible is that Moses’ face glowed after being near God’s glory (Exodus 34:29).

This moment in Scripture shows us a powerful truth: the more time we spend with God, the more we reflect His presence.

How Relationships Influence Our Spiritual Growth

We all know that the people we spend time with shape who we become. That’s why the Bible tells us:

  • “Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise.” – Proverbs 13:20

  • “Bad company ruins good morals.” – 1 Corinthians 15:33

If our earthly relationships can change us, how much more can a deep relationship with God transform our hearts? When we prioritize Bible study, prayer, worship, and obedience, we grow closer to Him—and as a result, we become more like Him.

Signs That God is Transforming You

While most of us won’t experience a literal glow like Moses, spending time with God changes us in real, visible ways:

  • A shift in our reactions – We no longer let small frustrations steal our peace.

  • A change in our speech – Our words become gentler, more loving, and life-giving.

  • New desires – We crave God’s presence more than worldly distractions.

  • Peace in uncertainty – We start to live in the peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).

Why Some People Will Reject Your Transformation

Not everyone will celebrate your spiritual growth. Exodus 34:30 reveals that the Israelites were terrified of Moses' radiant face. In the same way, many today feel uncomfortable around God’s undeniable presence in someone’s life.

Some may fear a God they cannot control, while others may reject Him altogether. But here’s the truth:

  • Moses did not apologize for reflecting God’s glory. – Exodus 34:33

  • He embraced it as a privilege and honor. – Numbers 12:3

When people reject the light of Christ in us, we should not shrink back. Instead, we should be grateful that His presence is so evident in our lives.

Never Hide Your Light

Jesus reminds us in Matthew 5:14-16 that we are called to be the light of the world:

  • You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.”

  • “Let your light shine before others.”

If others reject God’s light in us, we shouldn’t dim it to make them comfortable. Instead, we should pray that they, too, will come to know the transforming power of Christ. After all, the ones who resist it may be the ones who need it the most.

Reflect on Your Journey

  • How has God transformed your life?

  • What is one way you can shine His light today?

A Prayer for Spiritual Growth

Lord, thank You for the privilege of being in an intimate relationship with You. Help me seek You above all else and use me for Your glory however You see fit. I trust You. In Jesus’ holy and precious name, Amen.

More Bible Verses to Meditate On

  • Matthew 5:14-16 – Let your light shine before others.

  • Psalm 96 – Declare His glory among the nations.

Final Thoughts

Spending time with God changes us in ways that others will notice. While not everyone will respond positively, we should never hide His light. Instead, let’s walk boldly in His presence, His peace, and His power.
