How to Overcome Fear in Christ
When my children began learning this memory verse (pictured), I thought to myself, "What a good reminder for them that we have nothing to fear and that God walks beside us and equips us for the life before us."
As I pondered this verse more and listened to the little voices of my children repeating it in the background, I let the words sink in. I realized that as a parent there were fears I was dwelling on. Big fears that I needed to hand over to God.
"What kind of world are my children going to grow up in?"
The fear and anxiety surrounding this thought seemed all consuming. Our current culture is far from what I would like my children being immersed in, and as best as I try to shelter them from the harsh realities of our broken world, I know one day they will walk this life without the protection of their parents.
The truth is, mama, that God cares and loves our children more than we could ever comprehend and that our children have been created and ordained for a time such as this. (Esther 4:14). Your children will never walk life's long path alone; the loving and guiding presence of our heavenly Father will always be with them.
As parents, when we walk alongside our children, we need to hold fast to the wisdom God is giving us in this verse. He is not promising us that we will never be without fear but that when faced with it, it is possible for us to not dwell in it. God has covered us in His power from the Holy Spirit, and His love for us is enough to cast out any bit of fear that has tried to take root. (1 John 4:18) When we practice self-control, we train ourselves to seek Him first in all we do. (Matthew 6:33)
My prayer for you this week is that you trust God with any fears that have been burdening your heart, knowing He is able to carry you when you're weary. (Matthew 11:28-30) We are not to fear tomorrow, nor what will happen to our children, or any other other worries; for God has given us power, love and self-control through Him.
