The Benefits of Singing the Doxology with Your Children

A young woman in glasses is pictured with a soft smile holding a bouquet of pink roses and the doxology is pictured.

We sing the doxology with our kids every night as a part of their bedtime routine. I love ending their day with these words: “Praise God from whom all blessings flow. Praise Him all creatures here below. Praise Him above ye heavenly hosts. Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

It is my prayer and earnest desire that the lives of my children would be just this: a proclamation of the praise and glory of our great God. At the end of each day—filled with mistakes, restarts, tears, and joy alike—we conclude with a reminder of who He is and the awe and worship He deserves.

The small book of Jude ends with one of the most beautiful and theologically rich doxologies that Scripture offers (pictured). As Jude concludes a letter cautioning against false teaching, imploring believers to root themselves in Christ, he ends with exaltation over all that God does for those who anchor themselves in faith:

Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of His glory with great joy, to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen” (Jude 1:24-25, ESV).

Jude assures his readers of the strength and power of the one who gladly and surely upholds them and keeps them from falling into repeated sin and error. This is the promise of the assurance of our salvation! Believers of Jesus are kept in Him, by Him, and for Him. Not only does He keep us from eternal stumbling but He, as our perfect Savior and High Priest, presents us to God the Father as righteous—pure and blameless.

In our triune God rests perfect and complete glory, majesty, dominion, and authority. Or in other words: full credit, awe-inspiring beauty, complete jurisdiction, and absolute power.

This is, past and present, the most profound comfort and joy for those who are in Christ! You are not merely a Christian. You are bought and redeemed, adopted and chosen, beloved of the Most High, only and glorious triune God! Eternally.

Precious sister, may your praise ring out as you rest in the work of Christ.
