The Blessing of CHM's Maternity Program
Each month, I get to share about one of life’s greatest blessings for my family with you: Christian Healthcare Ministries (CHM). Christian Healthcare Ministries is a faith-based, nonprofit cost sharing ministry. Hundreds of thousands of Christians in all 50 states and across the world voluntarily pay each other’s medical bills. Members’ pre-set monthly financial gifts to CHM are the funds used to share each other’s healthcare costs. (Want to read more about health cost sharing? Cick here!)I am currently due with my first baby, a darling little girl, in just a matter of days (November 04, 2021)! That said, as CHM Gold and Brother’s Keeper program members, my husband, Michael, and I have been able to enjoy the incredible benefits of CHM’s maternity program.Today, I will be sharing my three favorite things with you regarding CHM’s maternity program!
01. CHM Shares 100% of Eligible Maternity Expenses
Christian Healthcare Ministries offers its members a variety of programs to assist one’s health care needs: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Brother’s Keeper. You can read more about these programs here. What I want to make note of concerning CHM’s maternity program is that you must be a Gold member or a Gold member with Brother’s Keeper in order to participate in CHM’s maternity program. If you are a CHM Gold member, CHM will share up to $125,000 per pregnancy. If you are a Gold and Brother’s Keeper member with CHM, the $125,000 cap is removed and the maximum per-pregnancy amount of assistance is unlimited. Michael and I are Gold and Brother’s Keeper members.According to CHM Guideline R, for Gold members CHM shares qualifying medical bills (see “Definition of bills” on page 7 of this guide) for prenatal, delivery (including cesarean and multiple births), home births, midwives, postnatal up to six weeks and any complications that arise for mother and baby. For a full list of eligible maternity expenses, check out CHM’s Gold Maternity Program Guide here.
02. Your Provider is Your Choice
By this, I mean you have the freedom to decide whether you would like to find an OB/GYN or a legally practicing Midwife to care for you and your baby along the way. CHM will share the medical bills incurred from whichever type of provider you decide. How wonderful is that? For our first baby, Michael and I decided to go with an OB/GYN. Our baby girl, Selah Bryn, will be born with a congenital heart defect. Because she will require special medical attention as soon as she is born, an OB/GYN was truly our best option. For future purposes, however, we love the idea of receiving care from a midwife and delivering in a birthing center. I am really thankful for the ways CHM values and supports its members as they focus on making decisions related to their healthcare needs that are best for them. This is just one of those ways!
03. 6 Weeks of Postnatal Care
Christian Healthcare Ministries not only shares the (eligible) costs of prenatal care, but postnatal care, too. Now, I haven’t given birth quite yet, but I know those first few weeks postpartum can be difficult and may even present the need for some extra attention as your body focuses on healing and caring for your baby’s needs. Our bodies and their ability to grow and nurture life are such beautiful, miraculous gifts! Amen? In addition, to have the support of our CHM family for those first six weeks postpartum is a tremendous blessing. Because, and let’s be honest, us mommas need as much support as we can get along the way!
Thank You, CHM!
To our CHM family, thank you for sharing the joy of our pregnancy experience with us! It has blessed us in more ways than one to know that we can welcome Selah Bryn with our undivided attention because we won’t be distracted by the weight of our incurred medical bills. It is such a privilege and delight to be a part of this ministry family. And what a blessing it is to witness the faithful working of our Father along the way, too!
