Turn Your Eyes to Jesus
Do you not see it?
I'm quite short, five feet to be exact. Because of this, I often run into people and things- especially if I don't look up. Sometimes, it's a wall. Others, it's someone. Most days, however, it's something within my surroundings I do not notice until it's too late.
This parallels so much with my walk with Jesus. At times, I can be so focused on what has happened in the past--like a previous painful interaction--or what's not happening in my life--like a marriage I've dreamed of--that I miss out on what is in front of me. When I am so focused on these things, I forget to turn my eyes to Jesus and miss out on what He is doing right now!
Isaiah 43:19 says, "Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert" (ESV).
"Do you not perceive it?" These five words can be such a key question for us today.
In other versions, we are asked "Do you not see it?" (NLT)
The fact remains that when we are so focused on ourselves, what we don't have, or even what has happened to us, we can have a difficult time seeing what God is doing right now; what He desires for us to see.
This doesn't mean we can't put in the work to forgive someone who's hurt us from our past or invite Jesus to heal the pain. It means, in order to do these things and not lose ourselves to our thoughts, we must keep our eyes set on Jesus.
What are you missing or bumping into? Is it possible that God is working on the very things you have been praying for and He is asking you, "Do you not see it?"
Join me in a simple prayer, so that you won't miss the beauty of His plans unfolding:
"Father, thank You that Your plans for me are good and that even when I don't see it, You are working. Forgive me where I have turned my eyes from You, and focused so much on the negative or circumstances in front of me. Today, I choose to agree with Your Word by saying, 'I see it!' I see Your hand all over my life, and I know that Your ways are not my ways, but they are better. Please, would You give me eyes to see what is springing up?"
