After studying Exodus earlier this year, Moses became one of my favorite people in scripture. It wasn’t because he was this super human man that delivered the Israelites, or because God gave him the Ten Commandments.I love Moses because he was scared, and he questioned everything. He did not want to do what God asked of him. He questioned every part of the plan. “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and that I should bring the Israelites out of Egypt?” Moses doubted he was capable. He was afraid he’d be inadequate. He asked “what if?” He wished for someone else to go in his place, and was bold enough to tell God to replace him. He had zero faith in himself.I love Moses because I tend to be a lot like him.I see my flaws and failures before my talents and strengths. I wonder how I could be called to do anything. I question God every step of the way, afraid I’m going to make a wrong move and fail all over again. I’m afraid God will never be able to work through someone so broken like me.Moses was too. So he tried to run away from what God asked of him. I used to see people like Moses in the Bible and put them up on a pedestal-- a hero of the Bible with faith that was unattainable. I was certain he and others in scripture were these perfect people who jumped at the chance to do these wild and bold things for the kingdom. But alas, that’s not the case. He’s just Moses, a guy that was fully human, a guy that questioned and doubted. But God used Moses anyway, and He can use us too- even when we don’t think we’re qualified or capable. After all of Moses’ bellyaching and begging for someone else to go instead, God gives him one response: I will be with you. He doesn’t give us the capabilities and talents to do what He’s called us to do- He gives us Himself. And He will do the work in us, through us, and with us, despite our failures and faults. The power of God in us and with us is greater than any skill, any map, any talent we could possess. We have Him- what more do we need? You’re the girl for the job. God has called you for such a time as this, but you have to say yes. You cannot beg your way out of being used by God.  Even if you question and doubt, He can, and will use you where you are. And He will be with you, in the midst of your wonderings and failures. He will be with us wherever He leads us, even if we aren’t sure where that may be.Just look at Moses.
