How do you begin your day? Are your eyes centered on the world or do you seek God first?Priscilla Shirer writes in her devotional book, "Awaken," about the importance of morning. She shares, “But I’m convinced that morning is a principle, not merely a time of day. It signifies a position of priority, a place of preeminence.” I don’t know about you, but when I read those words, I knew that God was speaking directly to me. If you read them again, you will see that it doesn’t say you need to be a morning person to focus on God. It simply points us to the One who directs our steps and still loves us when we go off road every now and again.

"The Lord directs our steps, so why try to understand everything along the way?" –Proverbs 20:24, NLT

I wonder some days why chaos surrounds me or why I feel off-balance. I look for a specific action or circumstance to blame it on. I’ll admit I find I’m going in circles until I allow myself to circle back to God.It is in the action of putting my gaze on the One who created all things and called it good, that I find my center. I am reminded of a picture of myself when I was about four years old lovingly looking up into my daddy’s eyes. My world felt perfectly balanced in that moment. The same happens when we keep our eyes on our Heavenly Father. There is faith in knowing where we are going and trust that if we take a wrong turn, God will lead us back to Him.I see the disciple, Peter in the days I am striving to hold it together. When Peter called out to Jesus in the storm and said, "Lord, if it’s you, tell me to come to you on the water.” Jesus responds with a one word reply: “Come” (Matt. 14:28-29, NIV). Easy, right? But only seconds later, Peter took his eyes off of Jesus and began to sink. How often do you do the same?Dear sisters—Jesus is in our morning, noon, and night. It takes a willingness to stay focused on Him as a way to center us first thing and all throughout the day. Today, I am holding onto Priscilla’s words and making “morning” a priority. Will you join me?
