Often, God likes to ask if I trust Him. He pricks at my hearts, in the places where I feel vulnerable and asks, “Do you truly trust me with this?” Trust is when we know someone is reliable, that they are firm and steady; that they aren’t going to crumble when things get tough. I often wonder why I’m so quick to place my trust in things of this world rather than in God.

People change, He doesn’t. People can let us down, God won’t. In essence, it boils down to our innate beliefs about who He is.

Sometimes I don’t really believe He can be that good. This can be particularly true when it comes to the dreams and hopes I have in the deep places of my heart. They are so precious and I am often afraid why God is holding out on me; that He won’t meet my expectations in some way.

But here’s the thing: when we surrender all of this to God, we begin to experience life the way He originally intended us to. Life in all its fullness (John 10:10). Anything we create for ourselves won’t match up to the goodness He has for us.

All of this, comes down to a choice. The choice to trust in who God says He is. We have to take a step of faith and leave our doubts behind. This means listening to His word and believing in His goodness, not listening to our doubts and fears.

So what does it look like, to choose to trust God? II think it starts with quiet steps in humble obedience; it begins in saying yes in the secret place; choosing to read our bible over a Netflix binge; choosing to live generously because we know that God has been generous with us; choosing to be kind to our enemies rather than to be cruel.

In this, as you learn to trust, know that His goodness and mercy is following you, moment by moment, day by day (Ps. 23: 6).
