“I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” -Psalm 119:11 (NLT)
At first, Psalm 119:11 sounds like a scripture telling you to memorize the law so you don’t break it. And it is that...kinda...but it's also so much more.I’ve been through some stuff lately.
Stuff that takes your breath away in a gut-punching kind of way.Stuff that the devil tries to tell you is going to forever ruin your life.Seriously hard stuff. In the middle of this stuff, I didn’t even have my Bible, my comfort, my go to. Lemme tell ya, that made it even harder. But you know what I did have? I had the Scripture that I had hidden in my heart. Not the ones I memorized for 30 seconds so I could win a prize at church camp. Nope. I had the Scripture that I had embraced, recited, sang, and declared; the Scripture that had become a part of my very being because I had lived with it. These are the Scriptures that came up in my spirit again and again; the Scriptures that kept my heart steady and kept me out of fear. These are the scriptures that kept me tied to the promises of God.Don’t let the enormity of the Bible keep you from memorizing, embracing, and living small verses or chapters. Everyone starts somewhere, the key is to start. Here are just a few of my very favorite scriptures, some of the ones that have helped me the most in hard times: Psalms 91, 23, and 103, 2 Timothy 1:7, Romans 8, 1 Corinthians 15:57.
