I learned a fun fact this week. The giant Sequoia trees have a special root system. They grow out instead of down, intertwining. They share resources amongst one another and that's what makes them thrive. What if a Sequoia tree decided it didn't want to root itself with others? It would either weaken the others or it would not survive. If this were the case, we would see them living much further apart. There wouldn't be healthy groves. There would only be single, unhealthy, Sequoias here and there. But how much more magnificent it is to walk through a grove full of giant trees, all standing tall and healthy. I’ve got to be honest: it wouldn't be too interesting to me to see one. But it's astounding to stand in a forest full. It is something other worldly. That's just like humans! When we try to do life apart from other Christians, we don't thrive and we'll eventually end up standing alone. Do you know what comes with standing alone?Vulnerability, weakness, and obviously, loneliness. We are built to be relational. We are built for love, friendships, closeness. In scripture we are referred to as the body of Christ and told we are each a different part. Body parts don't stand alone, friends. A body is knit together very intentionally. We, as brothers and sisters in Christ, are intended to be knit together very intentionally. We are meant to share resources so that we can grow to our full potential, alongside others who are growing to their full potential. We are meant to be a recognizable, awe inspiring, forest; trees that grow exponentially in comparison to others because they have something the rest don't. We are meant to be a forest set apart, reaching higher, pointing towards the Most High.Seek out your grove! Grow alongside one another. Let others pour into you and spend time pouring into others. Be relational in spite of our individualistic society. God uses that!

"Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it." -1 Cor. 12:27 (NIV)
