"Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness." - Romans 6:16-18 (ESV)

I'm often a slave to my regrets, my sin, to the striving attitude I get. When I fall short and mess up, I beat myself up. I feel so broken and defeated. And because I know that God is holy, perfect, forgiving and loving, my feelings of unworthiness begin to surface. Who am I to deserve His grace?Slaving over sin, over idols, over anything other than God...it's like wanting to prove yourself when your drowning so you deny the life jacket being offered to you. It's like wallowing in shame to punish yourself when forgiveness is being extended. If we’re not walking in the freedom that God has given us, we are missing the greatest gift that He has for us.I see you, girl. Slaving over your imperfections instead of handing them all to the Perfect One. Trying to walk in the truth that you’re forgiven and set free, but feeling too messed up to accept it.Sweet friend, open your eyes and see the shackles He has broken. See that He died for you because of this unceasing love He has for you, and that very same love is the driver of the forgiveness you’re repeatedly offered. He didn’t make a way for us not to take it.He doesn’t offer forgiveness just to tease us with it.He won’t open the door to freedom just to slam it shut. You are a child of God, you’re no longer a slave to sin but to righteousness. It is finished, it is done. Now go walk in freedom.
