One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God. When morning came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he also designated apostles: Simon (whom he named Peter), his brother Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Simon who was called the Zealot, Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.

He went down with them and stood on a level place. A large crowd of his disciples was there and a great number of people from all over Judea, from Jerusalem, and from the coastal region around Tyre and Sidon, who had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases. Those troubled by impure spirits were cured, and the people all tried to touch him, because power was coming from him and healing them all.

-Luke 6:12-19 (ESV)

All too often, it seems like I hear the phrase "Do something great!" and I immediately spiral into comparison mode. I worry that what I do for the Lord is not "enough". I think that I need to go on a far-off mission to India and serve the impoverished and dying like Mother Teresa in order to do something great for the Church. I even start thinking that maybe I'm just too much of a hot mess trapped on the struggle bus to do God's work. But really, I'm just missing the point. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Jesus chose twelve entirely ordinary and imperfect men to be His disciples. In fact, we are very much aware of the fact He chose Judas, who would be the one that would come to betray Him. And He even chose Peter, who would openly deny Him. But He did this knowingly, and if He did this knowingly, how could we possibly deny that He chose US knowingly? That He has a greater purpose for OUR lives.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀And not only that, it shows that our Lord is merciful and all-loving. He knows that we are going to mess up, but He seeks us out and chooses us anyway. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀I think sometimes we feel that we are inadequate or ill-equipped to do God’s will; that our current situation prevents us from pursuing holiness. Sometimes we stumble and mess up because we are human, but that doesn’t mean that God isn’t calling you to something great. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀If anything, He is inviting You to use your trials and mistakes to draw nearer to Him. Maybe it's laying down burdens that you have been carrying on your heart for months at His feet or just sharing your testimony. Regardless, God is calling you and me, an ordinary people, to be disciples and witnesses of His love. He is calling us to His greatness.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
