Daily Delight

It's not that I wasn't in the Christmas spirit, I just had other things on my mind.December always seems to be the month full of everything. For me, it had turned into a month of to-do lists. I was determined to check items off one by one. These were not the things that truly mattered, though. Don't get me wrong- I love the lights, the parties, the carols, and the Hallmark movies. But there was a stirring in my heart for something more. All the time and energy that goes into making this season "magical" was staring me in the face. As I watched the dress rehearsal for my daughter's Christmas program at church, I looked over to my left and spotted two men who were invited by a ministry team that had been reaching out to those less fortunate. My eyes went from watching the stag, to watching them. They were not dressed in the finest of clothes and they look a little tired. Their eyes lit up as they watched and listened to the Christmas story that was unfolding.

"Unto us a child is born, He shall reign forever more. Noel, noel, come & see what God has done..."

This song, these words, the message of God's love. His only Son, born in a stable, the Son of man lived on earth, then died on a cross for my sins and yours. I imagine that night in Bethlehem was like no other. Jesus was born. The Light of the world. Emmanuel. Tears flowed from my eyes as these men applauded at what they had just heard. I quietly walked out of the sanctuary as the Lord so lovingly reminded me that He is what was stirring in my heart all along. "My daughter, I am Christmas and every day in between."God used these men to show me what Christmas was really about; Him & Him alone.

"For God so loved the world that He gave His one & only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." -John 3:16 (NIV)

I clung to this stirring in my heart, this Christmas would be different. I would seek Him in every moment. In everything, all day.
