I cannot believe that a new year is only a few days away. Soon, many will write down some resolutions and their goal will be to achieve these things. Following through with these resolutions is a choice. Did you get that? It's a choice. The attitude and choices I make at any given time is up to me. Not my husband, my kids, my friends, my boss, or even my pastor. It belongs to me.
As I sit here reflecting about this past year, I wonder: Would God be pleased with every choice I made? Did I do all that I could to tell others about Him?
So many "resolutions" are mostly about ourselves and achieving personal goals. When, in all actuality, it is not about us at all. It's about Him! 365 days a year—opportunities you might say—what will we do with them?
Looking back, there were days when I know for sure I could have made better choices. Hard times and days that seemed to not make sense happened...and how did I handle them? Was it in a godly way? Did I always go to my heavenly Father seeking His counsel, or was it others I went to? I hate to admit that it was the latter.
I've decided that when those days come again, I will thank Him through the tears and pain. I will be conscious of my choices- choices involving my family, my marriage, my job, and—most importantly—seeking and pointing others to Christ!
For 2019, I decided to pick a Scripture to focus on and a word from the verse to focus on as well. The Scripture my heart landed on was Jeremiah 29:13:
"You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart" (NIV).
The word that God has placed on my heart from this special verse is seek. Now, I am not saying He won't place other words and scriptures to cling to on my heart as the year unfolds. As a matter of fact, I hope He does! He is the Author of my story and I want it to be a best seller for Him.
As we inch closer to 2019, I offer you this prayer:
"Dear Lord, we love You so much and we thank You for all You have done and will do. Thank You for being our God of yesterday, today and the days to come. May we always seek You with hearts wide open, saying 'Yes, Lord' to all You ask of us."
Amen.
