Praise the Lord for new beginnings! To be honest, this last year wasn't exactly the easiest. I’ve tried to view 2018 from every angle and count all the blessings. I even tried to turn the game around in the last few weeks of the year. Unfortunately, nothing can hide the fact that 2018 ended in a desert journey that I just wasn’t prepared for. What really hurts, though, is admitting that I didn’t trust that God would provide for me and carry me along the way.I wanted total control. I became the “girl-boss” that you always see in Hollywood movies. You know, the type who becomes so driven by her need to be successful and do things on her own, that she loses all her friends and everything else that holds any meaning in her life? Okay, that’s a little dramatic- but still! If you’ve ever had a similar experience, you know how exhausting it is to put on the act of having it all together. Maybe, in some way or another, you’ve played the role of “girl-boss” in your own life and didn’t even realize it. Maybe your “girl-boss” moment looked more like trying to be the student, friend, wife, or mother that could carry more than she could really handle. This role that we force ourselves into from time to time stems from a desire to be in control of our situation and hold power in our life. If we’re being honest with ourselves, it stems from a fear of being inadequate. The beautiful truth is that we do not have to shoulder burdens or a lack of control in our lives alone. If we commit all that we do to God, our fear of inadequacy and losing control will decrease. God’s plans will always be better than our own.As we enter 2019, examine your outlook on this new year and the goals that you have set for yourself. Do the goals and resolutions that you have created allow God to be in control? Will you allow His plans to determine the journey you will take this year?
