A rock collides with the smooth reflective surface of a mirror. Crack! New jagged pathways form on the surface and the once true reflected image is distorted. More collisions ensue and soon the smooth glass is mangled, incapable of producing a true reflection. I start today with this picture to illustrate the condition of the heart left unguarded.

An unguarded heart is prone to “distorted reflections.”

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it” (Proverbs 4:23, NIV). I have felt the wounds that come with leaving my heart vulnerable to the attacks of the enemy and the influence of this world. The shattering destruction that results from allowing comparison, lies, and insecurity to enter into my soul is all too familiar.

Not too long ago God opened my eyes to how damaging it was for my heart to be left unguarded by the truth of His word. He revealed how easy I had made it for the world and the enemy to impact what I believed about myself and how this robbed me of the joy and contentment He longed for me to walk in.

I challenge you to ask yourself an important question. Have you left your heart unguarded?

Not sure? Here’s a better question. When you look in the mirror of your heart, does the reflection you see align with what God sees? Do you describe yourself in a way that echoes what God would say about you?

Examine the condition of your heart today and see where the enemy and ways of this world have created a distorted reflection of who you really are. If you are in Christ, what is true about you is what God says about you in His word! Your heart is to be a bedrock for God’s truth and nothing else.

Father, I pray today you remove the cracks and distortions from my sister’s eye. Allow her to see herself in truth through you and the truth found in your word. Reveal to her the beautiful soul you have created in her. Amen.
