Daily Delight
I am currently in a season where God keeps telling me the same thing in different ways. Have you ever experienced this?In church last week, our pastor delivered a sermon stressing the importance of reading the Bible. Then, a podcast I listened to touched upon a similar idea: get into a daily rhythm of reading God’s word. And just when I began to wonder if God was trying to tell me something, I looked over this week’s topic in our mom’s Bible study group. It focused on - you guessed it- reading the Bible. We all have plenty of excuses to not be consistent readers of the Bible, and I think I have used every one.I don’t know where to begin. I don’t have the time. The Bible is too confusing. I can’t see how this is relevant to my lives right now. But what if I changed my attitude? What if the focus shifted from having to read the Bible to getting to read the Bible? You see, when we immerse ourselves in Scripture, those excuses fade away. We begin to look forward to those small moments when we get to meet with our Father and discover more about Him and His love for us. If we attempt to read the Bible in an effort to check one more thing off our list, we miss the point, and end up missing all God has to offer through it. But when we invite God in to read it with us, the Bible comes alive and stirs things within our hearts.Even the disciples did not fully understand the Scriptures with Jesus right there beside them. It was only with the help of Jesus that they could comprehend. “Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures” (Luke 24:45, CSB). God did not intend for the Bible to be hard to read or for it to be irrelevant. He wants us to draw near to Him, and the best way to do that is to get into His word. So let us make time for God today. Invite Him in close and allow the Holy Spirit to guide you through the Word. Let Him show you who He really is and who He wants you to be.
