Daily Delight
Have you ever felt stuck or unsure of what to do? Our gracious Heavenly Father reminds us that even though the Bible does not give us black-and-white answers to every situation, He does equip us with wisdom.Proverbs 15:33 says, “The fear of the Lord is instruction in wisdom, and humility comes before honor.” (ESV) We, as limited human beings, do not have all knowledge. We do not have all the experience, but we do have access to the One who does! He says that all we have to do is ask. When we humble ourselves and realize that we will never have all of the answers, God freely shares His wisdom. He “gives generously to all without reproach.” (James 1:5) God’s generosity is illustrated beautifully in the Old Testament. In 1 Kings 3, Solomon had just been appointed king. In a dream, God allowed Solomon a request, and Solomon humbly asked God for wisdom in ruling the kingdom. God was so pleased with this unselfish desire that He promised Solomon unmatched wisdom as well as wealth, honor, and long life.In the New Testament, James 1:15 says that today we are also given an open invitation to request wisdom from God. Do you struggle with how to raise your children? Do you wonder how to speak to your neighbors about the Gospel? Are you a leader in business or church feeling lost about how to lead well? Ask God for wisdom, and He will give it to you freely.Be on guard against assuming you do not need wisdom. God warns us in Proverbs, “Do you see a man who is wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.” (Proverbs 26:12, ESV) When we start to think we’ve got it all together, we begin to slip into pride -- and that is when we need God’s wisdom the most!Today, practice asking God for wisdom in all things. God, in His great generosity, wants to share His wisdom with you! Humbly allow Him to help you walk in wisdom in everything you do.
