Humbling yourself like a child is important in our faith. It allows us to come to Jesus with the beautiful, unwavering faith of a child. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀"He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me." -Matthew 18:2-5 (NIV)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀I noticed recently while parenting my youngest, that even when she has done something wrong, she is still faithful to coming to me when I say her name. She obeys. She has faith that her momma is going to act in a way that is kind and gentle. My oldest reacts differently. He is nervous at the outcome of coming to me for his mistakes, even if they were accidental.I’ve been that way too. Scared to come to Jesus knowing the mistakes I have made.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Mistakes that made me feel ashamed of how I acted or of words I may have said. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀It is easier to convince ourselves that our sinful nature was justified, instead of admitting to our shortcomings. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀We can’t allow pride to make us feel incapable of coming to the feet of Christ. We must learn to humble ourselves, to admit to our wrongdoings, and be faithful knowing Jesus will be kind and gentle. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀He wants to pull you up on His lap, surround you in His comforting embrace and tell you that you are incredibly loved. He wants to stroke your back and comfort you as you find His gentleness instead of anger. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀He knows we are not perfect and that we may act out of pride or selfishness, but He also gives us the opportunity to come to Him despite our imperfect nature and be accepted into His Home because we are His children. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀It doesn’t matter what my own child has done that may have been wrong, I still want to wrap them up and drench them in all the love and kindness I can. Our Father wants to do the exact same.
