"Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving." -Colossians 2:6-7 (ESV)

Is Colossians 2:6-7 the theme of your life? Does it describe you to a T? Are you always walking perfectly with the Lord? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Of course not!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀To walk rooted and built up in Him requires abiding in the Word of the Lord and obeying it. We are called to regularly and habitually take up our cross and surrender in obedience to Him. Our love for the Lord should turn us into warriors against sin. We should look to Christ and obey Him. Growing in faithful obedience is evidence of our justification.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀1 John 2:6 tells us, “By this we may know that we are in him: whoever says he abides in Him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked” (ESV). If we are true believers, our response is joyful obedience to our Lord and Savior. We must hate sin and strive to follow in the footsteps of our Savior. Although we can never replicate His saving sacrifice, we can strive to imitate and mirror his example of love, faith, selflessness, joy, kindness, etc. James tells us that we are shown as justified by our works (James 2:14-26). To say it another way, we will know that we are believers by the fruit that characterizes our lives.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀We will fail constantly. Paul acknowledges this truth saying in Romans 7:15-20. Sanctification is a life-long process. We will constantly be fighting and killing sin, our entire earthly lives. We must be, or it will be killing us.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Look to Christ, the perfect example, who joyfully fulfilled His Father's will as our only hope and perfect, final sacrifice. Why? Because of the JOY set before Him. As His chosen children, may we persevere daily to take up our cross in obedience, surrendering fully to His will. Let us also abide in His marvelous and glorious truths so that the theme of our life is to walk rooted deep and built up in Him.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
