Daily Delight
Steadfast (adj.): firmly fixed in place; immovable
This past week, I spent some time in the book of Hosea. The story found within its pages beautifully demonstrates the steadfast love God has for His people. God uses this love story to show us what it's like when we, His bride, chase after anything or anyone else but Him.
Hosea was a preacher who lived during a time when people did not care to hear his message. You see, the Israelites were more interested in worshiping idols than worshiping God. They forgot the one, true God they made a covenant with. Sound familiar?
Turning away from God results in no good thing. We may enjoy the worldly pleasures for a while, but “a while” is the only reward you will get. Nothing and no one else can satisfy like Him. This is exactly what happened with Israel and Judah; they turned their faces from God and in no time, distress and torment came upon them.
How often do we turn to other things rather than God (Hosea 5:13)? Perhaps because of a situation that has really been troubling us or maybe we feel like God did not handle a certain situation in our favor, refusing to embrace the truth that He knows what's best for us. As a result, we turn to the things our flesh craves instead of filling our heart with the truth it needs. We must remember that God is always enough for us, despite whether or not our circumstances turn out how we hope. If we turn to anything else in hard times, our spirits will become all the more more anxious and distressed.
To be honest with you, I'm currently struggling with this. However, I am so thankful for the ways God uses His spirit to convict us. It is solely because of His work in us and His grace that we are able to run back into His loving embrace. (Hosea 6:1) All He wants is our steadfast love in return. (Hosea 6:6)
Sister, God desires to love us with a love that is not shaken by circumstance. He is enough.
Love Him fully.
