Daily Delight

We are transitioning to summer in my house. The end of the school year brought much joy, excitement, and celebration. But, we are all looking forward to less structure and more freedom during the summer. Time to lazily start our mornings, have impromptu lemonade stands, and enjoy getaways to the cabin, paddle boarding and listening to the cry of the loons. For this mama, the transition is especially tough as I relearn how to navigate and balance my day, running a business out of my home while being present and engaged with my children. They are, after all, growing older. In just a few short years, my oldest will be entering high school. It is during these precious summer months that I keep this verse close by:

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:21, NIV).

This verse grounds me in my days, reminding me that life is full of choices. Each choice serves one of two purposes: to serve here on earth or to serve eternally. While God calls us to both servings, it is the eternal relationships that matter most. All too often I get caught up in earthly strivings. Before I know it, my heart and treasure are focused on building numbers and accomplishing projects, rather than on capturing hearts. In summers past, I have let these earthly strivings be my treasure. This summer, I’m committed to resisting the tug for these strivings, and devoting more time to building relationships with those God has blessed me to raise. How about you? Is this your summer where you too say yes to eternal relationships over earthly strivings? In the end, what you choose makes all the difference in the world.
