Daily Delight
The rest of Philippians 2:14 is just as important as the beginning, but today we are going to focus on the first seven words of it.I clean. I cook. I homeschool. I look good in a short profile for Instagram. I also whine, complain, argue. When it comes to my life, I do almost all things with grumbling and disputing. Outside of my typed profile, I am far from living out loving Jesus and others. My others. At times, it’s because I just don’t want to clean, cook, homeschool. I want to binge on delivered food, TV, read a book without interruption! Other times, it’s because I feel so insignificant in the Kingdom work. The lies of “just a mom” or “So & So’s wife” prevail and the wrinkled laundry only affirms these lies.
Find joy. Find Jesus. He is there. If you admit you’re a sinner, believe He died and rose again, and choose to follow Him then Jesus is there. He is always there. You just have to remember that He’s there through the messes, wilted vegetables, mud-stained kids, and all those things that scream at you throughout your mundane days. So, find Him and then partner with Him as you “do all things”.Collaborate with God. Do your work of every day sameness with your Heavenly Father. He’s the one who provided that work! The dishes, laundry, meals, picking up, dropping off. Each time you decide to walk alongside Him you bring, to your home, the here and not yet. You pass along peace to your family. You create a home that truly serves the LORD in all things. Then the grumbling, the pain of having to pick up that plastic whatchamacallit for the millionth time will pass.To live out the Gospel is difficult, hard, tiresome, never-ending work. The Gospel calls us to a life of sacrifice, but also to a life of rejoicing in all circumstances. The good, bad, ugly, beautiful, comfortable, and uncomfortable. All things. All circumstances. This life is not easy, but fully necessary.
About the Author
Jennifer Jahn
Jennifer is an almost-39-year-old born and raised in Southern California girl. The low 70's are too cold for her and the high 90's are too hot! She is the wife to a pastor and mom to four. The family is a home school family and just recently officially adopted their 18-month-old son. They live in Hesperia, CA surrounded by an awesome church community, lots of dirt, and two goats - Espi and Peter.
Jennifer has a heart for young ladies to know they are fully loved and delighted in by their Father God. She yearns for all wives and moms to know how valued they are at "just" being a wife and/or mom. She wants fellow sisters-in-Christ to know their first ministry is always the ministry of the home.
Her favorite things to do are siesta time (mandatory in their home), reading, writing, and planning get-togethers that revolve around food. She loves to skip the small talk and ask the big questions over dark-roasted coffee. Every morning, Jennifer prays a prayer of thanksgiving for His grace and mercy and to do better each day pouring out the same upon her home.
