Where is your heart? This question has been on my mind for quite some time now. It seems that it is easy to go with the motions of life and disregard the presence of the Creator in your life. During the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus brings this question to light: at this time, Jesus was growing in popularity as crowds began to follow Him. Jesus, as God, knew the hearts of each of the members of the crowd and spoke directly to each of them. The topic: bringing the Law that was followed to the letter and applying it to the heart.Back to the original question: where is your heart? Jesus proclaimed, “Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” (Matthew 6:1-4, ESV).As someone who is actively serving in their church, I have to take a step back often to ensure that my service is for the Lord and not a task that I check off for righteousness’ sake. Is your heart as well as your hands serving the Lord? I implore you to speak with the Creator and ask Him to reveal your heart. Ask Him to soften and mold you into His likeness so you can serve Him with every moment.
