Living a more simplified life requires us to confront our fears; the fear of the unknown and change, of new beginnings, of hard conversations where you say ‘no more,’ of shifts in financial status, and of new identities. When we are faced with these fears, it is easy to continue living life status quo, therefore ‘saving our life.’ But, if we choose to ‘lose our life’ by stepping out into God’s calling for a more simplified life, we will ‘save our life.’ This decision is not easy, but worth it. The solution to simplify my life was to quit my job. This one resolve has been the hardest decision I have ever made in my life. The fear of the unknown kept me paralyzed to a life that no longer served me.While I had many fears, the one that prevented me from taking action sooner was my identity. “If I was no longer a professor, then who was I?” While I still wrestle with this identity question, the decision to change and simplify life was the best decision I have ever made. It moved me out of living life in survival mode, and allowed me to begin thriving through life. This is God’s invitation for you too. He doesn’t want you just barely get by. He wants you living life to the fullest. The thriving life you desire requires you to look past your own fears and begin to put all of your trust into God and the new life He has waiting for you on the other side of fear. Your first step is prayer. Try praying this prayer today:
“Dear Heavenly Father, I’m scared to death of losing my life. It is my comfort zone. I know you have been nudging me to a different and more simplified life, but the unknown keeps me paralyzed. Please forgive me for my lack of faith and trust. Come into my heart and fill it with the confidence it needs to know that your way is always the best way. Amen.”
