Daily Delight

When was the last time you sat in solitude, soaking up quiet time with your Heavenly Father? In a world that runs 24/7, being still and quieting your mind, body, and soul can seem impossible. However, as His daughter, I desperately crave this quiet time. It is in these moments that I hear God speaking truth and life into my overburdened soul. As I sit in His presence, I find my worries turn to peace, my anxiety into contentment, and my exhaustion into fulfillment. God’s voice is exactly what I need to hear each and every day. But, I admit, I don’t always hear from Him. In fact, there are many days that go by each week where His voice is all but a distant desire. It seems life, and all its distractions, has a way of disconnecting me from God.While distractions look different to everyone, so many of us (myself included) struggle with an overcommitted schedule as we chase life by its tail, running from one activity to another. Add to this busyness our conditioned response of checking emails and social media feeds with every phone notification chime. Before we know it, our days become a jumbled mess of constant interruptions, with little to no time to just be still and quiet in front of our Heavenly Father. This quiet time, however, is exactly what we need in order to hear from God.

After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.” -1 Kings 19:12 (NIV)

God speaks to us in quiet whispers. If we want to hear from God, we need to carve out time every day to just be still. As Emily Freeman writes, we need to “allow some nothing space to fill the in-between moments [of life].God will not shout over the noise we create. He will, however, speak to us in gentle whispers. It is my prayer for you today that you find moments to be still in God’s presence.
