Have you ever been through seasons where there seemed to be no hope? I know I have. It was like everywhere I turned, darkness and chaos ensued. Through this time, God was teaching me to look to Him for joy instead of wallowing in the desolation.Habakkuk, a prophet, felt the overwhelming weight of a trial that God showed him would face the Jewish people. In his book, he wrestled with the Creator about the upcoming trial, but ultimately came to trust the sovereignty of God. At the end of the book, he wrote, “Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will take joy in the God of my salvation. God, the Lord, is my strength; he makes my feet like the deer’s; he makes me tread on my high places” (Habakkuk 3:17-19, ESV).Although desolation was in every direction, although there was no livelihood, although road blocks surrounded him, he looked to God. Are you feeling stuck and hopeless? So did Habakkuk. But, he rejoiced in the Lord despite the overwhelming darkness of the trial. God is the ultimate and only source of joy, and strength can only be found in Him. God is forming you in His likeness. These times may be painful and frustrating, but they will cease and you will be in the High places with your Creator. Depend upon Him and find the ultimate joy.
