I stumbled across three words in Scripture just recently that I want to share with you. To me, they seem nearly as sweet as the words "I love you."

In Exodus 2:23-25 we get a peek into the misery of the Israelites. They were slaves to Egypt, and they wanted freedom. As they groaned and cried out for help it says, "And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. God saw the people of Israel-- and God knew."

"...and God knew."

I believe every single word in Scripture is on purpose. We would have gotten the point of the story if those three words weren't put at the end of the verse, but since there is intentionality and inspiration behind all of Scripture, those words were meant for something.

There is so much comfort in the words,"and God knew". We aren't given any clarification in this passage as to what Israel's groaning was. Were they actually saying words to God or literally groaning? They were probably starving and in great physical pain from their labor, so it's not unlikely they were literally groaning. Whatever it was, God saw them, didn't forget them, and knew exactly what their groaning meant. He understood their deep heart cries.

God never changes; His character is steadfast.
Just as He knew during the time of the Israelites, He knows now. During those nights of crying out to God, where you have no words to express your pain, He knows. When your heart is weighed down with fear or loss, He knows.

I cannot stress the comfort I want you to feel from this verse enough! He sees us, He remembers us, and He knows. As difficult as it can be to wait on God's timing for freedom from our circumstances, rest in the security of those words. What a loving Father we have, that He loves us enough to know; to understand; to see us and hear our prayers, all over the world. And how special it is that He included these three words in Scripture so that we may be reminded of who He is and the love He has for His children.
