Daily Delight
One of the biggest things that the Lord has been teaching me lately is how to make the most out of being in a season that I call, "the time in-between." Basically, it's a season where I am moving towards a goal, like finding a job that utilizes my talents and abilities, finding the man I want to marry and do life with, or being in a place where I can travel and see the world. It can be anything.
Personally, I'm stuck in the boat of waiting for the right job. The other night I became so frustrated with how my job search is going that I went to my friend and poured out my heart to her. Instead of encouraging me to have high hopes and continue on with my search, she told me to check in with God. She knew the issue at hand wasn't due to my circumstance, but rather my attitude.
In Philippians, Paul says, “I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength" (Phil. 4:11-13, NLT). Paul had an understanding that our joy in life does not come from our circumstances, but rather it comes from God. This is an incredibly important truth to know, because if we try to find joy in the world, we will always be discontent. When it comes to our job, we will always have bad days where we long for something different. This is when we need to check in with God and remember that He is our true source of joy and fulfillment.
In the Psalms, David tells God, “You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore" (Ps. 16:11, ESV).
