The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
    He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
    He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
   I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever. -Psalm 23:1-6
Our generation has been taught to be our own boss, make our own way, be independent, seek out our own plans and make things happen for ourselves. So we are stuck in this space where we’re trying to make things happen and also trust in God at the same time and we’re 100% confused in the process. We are a leaderless generation of wandering sheep in need of a shepherd.
It doesn’t matter how many scriptures you know, how righteous you feel, how many degrees you have, how good looking and wealthy you are, or how many followers you have. You need a shepherd.
An earthly shepherd's job is to tend, herd, feed, and guard the sheep from anything that may harm them.
As with God, He corrects and those that he loves.
Sometimes that correction is painful.
He always protects. Maybe you have never had anyone protect you before, so this is hard for you to grasp but God has had his hands on you since the day you were born. You may have been through some stuff, but he’s always been a hedge of protection making sure it was never too much.
As written by David, this psalm has carried me through many days. I’ve written it on a notecard and held it in my pocket for weeks at a time pulling it out to meditate on it as often as I can. I’ve also had this scripture written on my bathroom mirror so it is the first and last thing that I see each day. These are baby steps to trusting in The Lord. Plant daily reminders around yourself. Reminding you that God is a good shepherd who is providing, provisioning and protecting you everyday of your life.
