Daily Delight

For the past few years, I can recall moments where I would suffer through a heavy weight of hopelessness. From my dad’s death, almost three years ago, to the recent death of my brother just seven weeks ago, there have been moments where I am hard-hearted and I reprimand myself for not knowing how to speak honestly with my Father or for not believing the difficulty of my walk with Him would ease. I fall short by not allowing myself to grieve the major and minor losses of my life or fully enjoy and soak in the gift of grace that He provides for His children.
“For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently. In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:24-28, NIV)
The Word tells us that we don’t have to have the words. We’re allowed to be brutally honest and not have to pursue the perfect prayer. Because of the hope we have in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, the Spirit “searches our heart”, sorts all our deep pains and hurts, and comforts us. While we are waiting patiently, God delights in our victories while exchanging our temporary happiness with unfailing joy. We are offered a relationship through the sacrifice of Jesus where we hope in things unseen and extend our hands to discover the fullness of God’s love and grace. Thank You, Lord, for the ultimate sacrifice of Your Son to give us hope we didn’t deserve and show us that You’re not finished with us yet.
