Daily Delight
I’m convinced I was born in the wrong time. In high school I was obsessed with the television shows “I Dream of Jeannie”, “I Love Lucy”, and “Bewitched”. Sundays after church, I would watch the Dick Van Dyke show with my family while we ate breakfast. One year, my uncle didn’t believe my parents when they told him what I enjoyed watching, so they called me over and I confirmed it. His expression was priceless.
There are many times I sit here and wonder why things couldn’t be the way they used to. Moments I try to convince myself that the change was for the best. But other times, I’m not so sure.
But that’s when Mordecai’s words ring through, “Perhaps you were made for such a time as this” (Esther 4:14b ESV).
These words were meant to be a push for Queen Esther to do something. These words can also be the push for me and you.
That job you’re not too fond of? You are there for such a time as this. That location you want to leave? You are there for such a time as this. Those people you come in contact with every day that you don’t want to? You are there for such a time as this. The world is absolutely crazy and you pray every moment of every day that Jesus would return? You are here for such a time as this.
What I came to realize is that the phrase that got me through high school and through a couple different transitions, is not simply comforting, it’s commanding.
Y'all we were made for right now! We need to be living in it!
Last week in my devotional I mentioned that there is a specific season for everything- a time for every matter, and I believe that this kinda goes along with it.
Just like Queen Esther, you were made for such a time as the season you are in. No ifs ands or buts about it.
It’s a difficult season, He will equip you with strength. It’s a trying season, He will equip you with perseverance. It’s an impossible season, He will equip you with the knowledge. On and on I can go, but I think you’ve got that no matter what, He will give you what you need to live in your ‘such a time as this’!
I want to leave you with this one last thing. Once the Queen heard the message from her father figure, she went and she risked her life ultimately saving others.
This command is not just yours, it’s for me too. We are where we are for such a time as this. What are we going to do about it?
