Daily Delight
Before moving to University I had a pretty rough time at home. Whenever certain problems arose I would go for a walk down a particular road to a particular park. Usually my immediate instinct would be to ring a friend to have a little rant and cry down the phone. Yet, on one especially bad occasion, everyone I tried calling didn’t answer. I was entirely alone.
Except I soon realized I wasn’t alone at all. I had my Heavenly Father, the King of Kings, walking with me. In that walk I felt God really strongly reminding me that He is my strength. He should be my first port of call. My instinct should be to look to Him.
I could only attempt to explain the difference in my circumstances when I stopped looking to my phone and started looking to my Savior. When I stopped relying on human wisdom and began to depend on my omnipotent, all-loving Father.
What I love about these verses is that it explains that we often look to “the mountains” for solutions – that is, any worldly thing or being – when God “made heaven, and earth, and mountains”. We in our often silly human nature, turn to things or people made by God when we could simply turn straight to Him. We wouldn’t rely on a weak extension cable if we had direct access to the power source, so why do we restrict ourselves to damaged and limited wisdom and love?
Our fellowship and relationships are incredibly important, of course. But please don’t prioritize these over your relationship with your Creator, your Provider, your Father who loves you more in a single moment than anyone else could in an entire lifetime.
