Daily Delight
"Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." -Philippians 1:6 (NIV)
Alone. This word used to petrify me. Just the thought of even being alone would make me cringe, I never thought I was capable of being in that place, until I had no choice because God called me there. He didn’t just call me there for a day, I was in that place for over a year, and you know what? It was the most beautiful experience I have ever had with the Lord. My season of being alone was a sacred space between God and myself.
Let’s look at the story of Elijah. After hearing that Jezebel wanted him dead, Elijah hid in a cave. He became depressed and started to fear the uncertainty of what was ahead of him. Amongst these feelings, the Lord called Elijah onto a mountain to be alone with Him. Once Elijah reached the top, a giant wind erupted, an earthquake shook, and a fire set ablaze. But sisters, it’s not in those big obvious places where Elijah heard the Lord. In 1 Kings 19:11-13, it tells us It was in a small whisper.
Beautiful one, God loves to work on you, alone. He wants your attention and He wants your heart. He wants you. When He calls you to be alone, it is there that He is preparing you, teaching you and strengthening you for the beauty that awaits. It’s a place where He is going to show you things about yourself you didn’t know and things that you didn’t know you were capable of achieving. When He called me to be alone with Him, He stripped me of my thoughts, my “picture perfect” ideas, and filled my heart with new dreams, dreams that were in rhythm with His will.
If you are in your alone season with God, cherish it, honour it, and press into what He is doing in you. I am confident this is one of the most precious experiences you will ever encounter. In Isaiah 65:24 it says, “Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear.”
Be present and listen to His whisper.
