What does success look like to you? What does it mean to you? These questions used to constantly reside in me. My picture of success was to obtain a great job, graduate college, get married, travel, and start a family. And I wanted it in that exact order.

There is nothing wrong with desiring such things, but in being so focused on my plans for myself I lost sight of God's plan for me; I avoided the call He had placed on my life. Dealing with a change in my plans required me to have God’s thoughts in my focus! And I'm so glad it did, because once I found myself in a place of truly knowing God, I knew without a doubt that He had great plans for my life; greater than anything I could have ever dreamed up.
We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.  -Proverbs 16:9 (NLT)

God interrupted my plans so that my heart and mind would align themselves with His plans. I had to fall a few times until I finally surrendered and put my pride and stubbornness aside. Despite the difficulties, I learned one of the most important lessons through it all: success is through my obedience.

The challenges I face as I learn and grow in my walk with the Lord are building my character, integrity, confidence, trust, and faith. This is my prayer for you today.
May the Lord give you discretion and understanding when he puts you in command over Israel, so that you may keep the law of the Lord your God. Then you will have success if you are careful to observe the decrees and laws that the Lord gave Moses for Israel. Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged.” -1 Chronicles 22:12-13 (NIV)
