Immanuel. God with us.
Sometimes we view God as an artist who paints a masterpiece and when he’s done, sets down his paintbrush and walks away. We think God created this world, sat down when He was finished and is waiting around doing nothing until His watch ticks to let Him know it’s time to bring us to Heaven. We view Him as so distant! How many times have we had a hard week, we didn’t pray as much as we liked to, we lost our cool with our husband, we said things we shouldn’t have and our first thought is – I need to get connected to God again? That couldn’t be further from the truth.
We already are connected to God all the time. Every second. Every moment. We don’t have to do anything to get closer. He’s already closer than our skin. He’s not angry or disappointed with you giving you the cold shoulder. He’s not waiting for you to get your act together. He is always there, always open, always available.
When we were born again we were born of God.
“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh nor the will of man, but of God.” (John 1:12-13 NASB)
It’s just like our natural birth. You have a mother and a father that’s a fact. You share their DNA, their very blood. That can never change, no matter if you disown them or they disown you, you will always be connected to them in this way. It’s the same with God. We were literally born of Him, we have His DNA, His blood. We are of Him. He didn’t just create us and walk away. He created us through him.
“For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things.” (Romans 11:36 NASB)
That means that His very Spirit is in us.
You can never be separated or disconnected from God (Romans 8:38-39 NASB). Next time you feel like you are, just thank the Lord that He’s not only with you but He is literally in every cell of your body because you are of Him. Let that transform the way we live our lives.
